As you saw in the previous blog that that more than half the cases of cancer can be prevented by some lifestyle changes, the food you take, physical activity of your body.
So you should steer away from foods like Microwaved Popcorn, Hydrogenated Oils, French Fries and Potato Chips.
The experts at Capitol Hospital will discuss some more food choices in this aspect.
- GMOs/ GLYPHOSATE
Aren’t we surprised when a fruit or vegetable vendor gives us ripe juicy mangoes even when the season of summer has just started?
This occurs due to GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) being induced in the fruits causing them to ripe faster. But this process has its own share of demerits. Most of the corn and soy available these days are altered with GMOs. Many experts say that the amount of testing that was done before adding GMOs to the food industry was not adequate to determine the effects of it on humans. So exactly no one knows the long-term effects this can have on your health.
It is always better to go with organic produce i.e. the product which has not been genetically modified.
- CANNED FOODS
We all know that canned Foods are not good for our health as they contain artificial sweeteners and preservatives, but what we don’t know is that bisphenol-A (BPA) has been found in the lining of canned tomatoes.Usually, tomatoes are said to be cancer-fighting foods but because of this chemical, the canned tomatoesbecome very harmful and may cause cancer in humans.
Research done in 2013 by National Academy of Sciences shows that BPA can actually vary the genetics inside the brain of rats. Most of the canned foods are lined with this deadly BPA, but tomatoes are a bigger thread and more dangerous because of its acidic nature. This acidic nature is what causes the BPA from the lining to come in contact and mix with the tomatoes itself.
Better safe than sorry. We can always buy fresh produce and cook it rather than relying on these canned goods.
- PROCESSED MEATS
The meat which has been altered to change the flavoring, color, and preservation through different processes like curing, fermentation, smoking etc. is known as processed meat. It has been told by WHO that high cooking methodincrease the risk of cancer, although the extent of this is not yet completely known.
Processed Meat was classified as Group 1i.e. carcinogenic to humans. This means that in case of processed meat, there is conclusive evidence to suggest that it does increase therisk of cancer in humans.
Around 30,000 cancer deaths per year have been contributed by high consumption of processed meats.
Different preservation methods also can result in the formation of carcinogens (e.g. Sodium Nitrite).
